How many species of birds are there in the world 2021 - Birds

Birds are commonly belonging to class Aves. Avis is a Latin word mean bird. The dominate characteristics of birds are flight, modified appendages as wings, feathers, endothermic high metabolic rate; they have light bones and modified vertebral column for best flight. Birds possess horny bill and do not have teeth.

According to American museum of natural history 18,000 bird species throughout the world were recorded. According to them the species could be exceeded up to 20,000 in future. But old research literature has reported 10,000 bird species. There are about 668 to 786 species of birds throughout Pakistan of which 39 are rare or accidental species. One species is extirpated (local extinct in chosen geographic area of study though it still exist elsewhere).The national bird of Pakistan is chukar patridge (Alectoris chukar) and the shaheen falcon (Falcon peregrinus peregrinator) is the famous bird reminded in the poetic couplets of national poetry of Pakistan, by Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal. Biodiversity in Pakistan belongs to Pelaeartic, Indo-Malayan and Ethiopian realms. The of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa supports rich biological diversity spreading throughout the province. The fauna can be judged from the fact that 98 species of mammals, 456 species of birds and 48 species of reptiles are found in the province as compared to 188 species of mammals, 668-786 species of birds and 177 species of reptiles found in Pakistan.
